Sunday

Slow Cooking Sunday

He Has Risen........................ He Has Risen Indeed

It is Resurrection Sunday, my favorite Sunday every year!!!!!! We did not make it to Sunrise Service and truth be told we will not be making it to church at all today. We decided that we wanted to stay home as a family, since Big Daddy is still on pain medications from his surgery. So far it has been a wonderful Sunday. I haven't taken the time to do my own bible reading BUT did get to help JJ read his section for today in his new Day by Day Kids Bible. LJ found the section in his new ICB Student Discovery Bible about the crucifixion of Jesus. Both have already eaten the heads off of their bunnies, lol and all is quite as my coffee finishes brewing. I can't wait to see what CJ thinks of her ICB God's Princess Bible and Princess Bunny when she wakes up. I'm about to fix pancakes for Big Daddy, I'm sure he is hungry and needs to eat before he takes his medication. But I wanted to share with you a cute bookmark I made to go along with the Bibles we got for our children this year. This is so simple that you can even have your children decorate them on their own to help keep their page as they read through their bibles.

First you need to mark off the sides of an envelope. I chose yellow as it is a bright color and will contrast nicely with the stamp I am using.

Next you need to cut your triangles out. This can be done with regular scissors or you can use decorative scissors. (Note: you might want to test your scissors before making the final cut as you can see below depending on how you hold the scissors determines how the cut will look.

Almost done, all you have to do now is decorate. I chose to use a stamp for mine.

To give it a personal touch, I pulled out my colored pencils and blender pen.
For the boys I just colored in the heart in the middle of the flower then.....

finished it off with my blender pen. Not sure if you can tell but it smooths out the lines and makes the color pop!!! (This is one of my favorite ways to stamp!!!)

The top triangle has only been colored by a red color pencil, the bottom triangle has been touched up with a blender pen.

Next you simply slip your bookmark onto the corner of a page and have a colorful reminder of where you left off.

This is also a nice way to add a personal touch to any book.  Here I made a bookmark for the Gladys Alyward book we are currently reading. It says, "We do not remembers days, we remember moments."

Now we come to the part of my post where I am suppose to share a slow cooking recipe BUT I'm afraid that today we are simply having Ham Sandwiches. However I will open the linky in case you would like to share a favorite Resurrection Sunday recipe or something special you made for your loved ones in celebration of Resurrection Sunday. You have all week to link up so I do hope you find your way back to share how you celebrate our Risen Savior!!!!
p.s. The linky doesn't open until 2pm est. So go enjoy your SONday!!!!!!

Slow Cooking Sunday

Okay so, for me, blogging is a fancy way to journal, taking notes and a safe place to store information that I might want to pass on to future generations. Which is why I love to do is blog hop. You know, when you start on one blog and then "hop" to another blog and another and another. Often I don't want to necessary follow that blog but will stumble upon a post I want to keep tabs on. Which happened this week!!  I came across some recipes that I think will be perfect for future Slow Cooking Sunday posts.  But instead of waiting till I try the recipe, I thought I would share the links with you so you could check them out as well. After all isn't blogging all about spreading the love!!!! So here are note worthy recipes I found this week:

Bolognese Sauce by The Weekend Gourmet
Light Red Beans and Rice by Quit Eating Out

SlowCookingSunday

Alfredo Chicken Soup was cooking in my slow cooker this week and it was yummy. The only issue I had was I didn't make enough!!! I second guessed myself and added only one can of Alfredo Sauce instead of the two and I should have doubled the remaining ingredients. I wont do that again. But lets stop a second so I can share a tip with you for cutting bell peppers!!!

If you are not going to use all the bell pepper, cut it below the seeds and it will keep the part with the seeds fresher longer and you use the part without the seeds today!!!
So here is what I used:
  • 3 chicken breasts, diced
  • 3/4 cup chopped carrots
  • 3/4 cup chopped red bell pepper
  • 1/2 head of broccoli
  • 1 jar of Alfredo sauce, BUT you need to use 2!!
  • To taste, minced garlic, onion powder & Italian seasoning
  • chicken broth to get soup to desired consistency
(I use chicken bouillons to make my broth)
Thankfully I had made a loaf of bread in my bread machine and that saved the day!!!! I also wanted to share that starting next week I am planning on not just feeding your tummies but your Spirit as well. So I do hope you will stop by next week as I share what the Lord is doing in my life!!!

But for now, would you please share a slow cooking recipe that has saved your day?!?!

Slow Cooking Sunday

The one reason I really enjoy my slow cooker is because of the dump method. Yep, some of our best dinners come from this practice!!!

My favorite way to cook chicken breasts, in the slow cooker of course, and the shred it. I like
to add some chicken granulates and onion powder with about 1/4 cup of water to the chicken breasts
while they are cooking!

Next I cut up some smoked sausage and 'dumped' it in the slow cooker.

Whew, this is where I am so glad I took a picture cause I just started pulling out spices and ingredients and didn't write it down. So it looks like I added
  • can of diced tomatoes
  • can of tomato paste
  • to taste added oregano, garlic salt, onion powder and black pepper
  • total added 2 beef bouillons and 2 cups of water

I did my famous put it in the fridge till morning and let it cook while we were at church and we got to eat some yummy jambalaya!!! We serve ours over rice, toast or rolled up in a tortilla.

Alright, it's your turn now to link up and share a favorite slow cooking meal!!

Slow Cooking Sunday

This week I cooked one of my favorite Slow Cooker Sausage Vegetable Soup. By the time I got my ingredients all dumped into my slow cooker it was time for bed but I still needed to add the sausage, but it was going to have to wait till morning.

But remember how I said I usually don't cook just one meal at a time, I decided to have hard boiled eggs and grits for breakfast which solved my dilemma of cooking the sausage in the AM.
I hadn't started the grits yet because I only have 2 large stove tops.
Once the sausage was done I stirred it in, turned on the crock pot and headed to church. When we got back I was able to serve a yummy soup and bread to fill our tummies!!!!
Don't forget the linky will be up from today until Saturday, so you have all week to link up!!! Hope to see you back here next week, if not sooner to share one of your favorite slow cooking/ cooker meals!!!

Slow Cooking Sunday

SlowCookingSunday

Well I must confess that today was a day of convenience.
I had hoped to make it good and wholesome by cooking my own beans but after I over cooked them that wasn't going to happen.
I seldom cook just one meal at a time. Here I am cooking the beef patties for Salisbury steak, boiling potatoes for another meal and browning the meat for the chili.
All the ingredients waiting for the browned beef to cool down. I stir it in and then put the cooker in the refrigerator until the morning.
She looks a little lonely doesn't she.

The chili mix only called for 1 can of kidney beans but I did add 2 cans to help stretch the meal a bit and it worked like a charm. Since I had to head to the grocery store, I went ahead a picked up a bag of Fritos to serve the chili over. I think it was a great hit!!!!

I do hope you will link up with one of your favorite Slow Cooking recipes. I think I'm starting to run out of mojo and could use a little help in the department of recipes for slow cookers, know what I mean!!!!!! Come back next week and you'll see what I was able to whip together as this week is going to be a clean out the pantry week!!!!!!

**Sorry but I'm having an issue logging on to LinkyTools, I'll try again tomorrow morning and get the link up working. Thanks for your patience!!!!

Slow Cooking Sunday

Well my quest for a stress free Sunday cooking is going well so far!!! In fact this week I only have a before picture because we were so hungry and I forgot to get a picture of our meal before it was all gone. And of course it was one of those times where I just threw together what I had to create a yummy Potato Soup!
Once again I prepped my slow cooker the night before by dicing up 7 baking potatoes and adding 6 cups of water and let it set overnight. Then this morning I added 7T of chicken bouillons, onion powder, salt and pepper to taste and 1/2 cup of butter cut up. I put my slow cooker in the heating unit and let it cook on low* till we got back from church. (*you will want to use your highest setting if you want the soup finished in at least 4 hours and low if you tend to cook over 6 hours)

Don't forget to link up with your favorite slow cooking recipe and remember you have till Saturday to share with us!!!!

Slow Cooking Sunday

This week I made one of my favorites, Sloppy Joes!!!!  Thankfully I had some left over cheesy potatoes and black eyed peas, so this meal came together quicker than it would have taken to be seated and ordered at a restaurant, yeah!!!

Here is the orginal recipe:
1/2 onion, chopped
2lb ground beef, browned
7oz ktechup
1/2c water
1T lemon juice
1 1/2t worcestershire sauce
1t vinegar
1/4t dry mustard
hamburger buns
Brown meat; drain. combine all ingredients, except buns, in crock pot and cook on high for 4 hours.

I already had browned the ground beef and just needed to dump all the ingredients, except the buns of course, into my cooker the night before and keep it in the fridge until the next morning. Then just before I left for church I popped the cooker into the heating unit, turned it on high!!! Sorry I don't have pictures this week, the camera went MIA!!!!

Do you have a recipe you would like to share? The join the party and link up, remember you have all week to link up.

Slow Cooking Sunday

Okay, I finally feel like I've got my footing back and that the whirlwind of a New Year has slowed down and we can get back to "normal" life. AND I may be biting off more than I can chew BUT I am wanting to start a meme on my blog called Slow Cooking Sunday. Here is how it will work, each Sunday I will post a picture and the recipe of how I cooked something slow for us to eat after church. It could either be in a slow cooker or in the oven but something that is ready for us when we walk into our home!!!! Now this meme will be open all week long ending on Saturday and I would love for you to link up a post with a slow cooking recipe. All I ask is that you either attach the button or link back to the current week's post. Simple and a great way to revisist those old posts that your readers might not have had a chance to read, you know way back when your blog was new and all, kinda like mine, lol!!!!! Alright lets get too it!!!!

SlowCookingSunday

This week I cooked Meat Ball Stew for my family, yummy!!!!

Now you can go to BusyCooks.com to get the original recipe but here is how I did it:
I chopped up two large carrots, three medium size red potatoes and 1 1/2 onions and put them in my slow cooker. (I already had a 2lb bag of carrots on hand so I wasn't going to buy a bag of baby carrots.)
Next I added enough water to account for the 3-14ozs of beef broth plus 1 cup of water that the recipe called for; covered and let it sit over night. This meant no chopping in them morning and a clean kitchen)
In the morning I added the following to the slow cooker:
  • 5T of beef boullion
  • 1/2 of a 24 oz bag of frozen meatballs
  • 1 hand full of frozen lima beans
  • 3 hand fulls of frozen corn
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 2 14oz diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 spoon full of minced garlic and sugar
  • added but did not measure the basil, salt and pepper.
I slowly stirred all the ingredients to mix well and turned my slow cooker to low, that was around 730ish and we are usually home from church between 1230-1pm!!!
(What I have found is that this particular slow cooker seems to get hotter than my older slow cookers and would probably be considered high on most today!)

I also baked a loaf of bread in my bread machine.
(Thankfully I remembered to take a picture before the loaf was all gone!)

Join in on the fun and link up what you are cooking up in your kitchen this week!!!! But remember it has to be a slow cooking recipe!!!
