Resurrection CountDown: Day 8

Today the 5th egg is opened to reveal a piece of leather. This represents the beatings that Christ took. Here is an excellent article on what Christ endured. I would suggest that for adults tonight would be a good night to watch The Passion of Christ or do research on exactly what went into the crucifixion of a person. For our young ones, however, we will simply tell them that both the Jews and Roman soldiers beat Jesus before he even went to the cross.

Dear Father, may we take time to reflect on the sacrifice Christ went through for us that we may be made whole in Him. Just as the nails pierced Christ, may the condition of our soul pierce the very depth of who we are, giving us no other choice but to chose Him as our Savior or reject Him. Let us no longer stand on the side lines of our commitment to Christ but see all that He gave for us that we may give all we are for His Glory and Kingdom. May your will be done, in Jesus Name we pray, Amen

I remember seeing the Passion of the Christ and sitting there wishing the torture would END...I couldn't take it. I was ready to leave. As adults, we NEED to see that...to get just a small glimpse, a small fraction of the excruiting torture Christ had to endure for us...His gift to us. He not only endured the physical torture, but also the psychological pain of bearing the guilt of our sin. It still, all these years later, humbles my Christian heart.

Every day, there are Christians persecuted around the world because of their belief in Jesus Christ. I think so many of us get caught up in our own wants and needs and forget that some have to "pay a cost" to worship our almighty Savior.

Holy week (~the countdown to the resurrection) is an emotional time for me. Remember the cross.
