Lord, Teach Me To Pray: Day 1

July 3, 2009

1 John 5:14-15

The Message
13-15My purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God's Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion. And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he's listening. And if we're confident that he's listening, we know that what we've asked for is as good as ours.

New Living Translation
14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

Amplified
14And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.
15And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.

King James
14And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Father, I commit to you the next 28 days to be still and listen. I am your sheep and I desire not only to know your voice but to obey it. Through your Word, reveal to my eyes that which You desire for me to know so that my heart may meditate upon that which you have set before me. Wisdom comes from knowledge and knowledge from the Word of God. You tell us Your Word does not return void. Fill our hearts and homes with Your truth, the truth that will set us free. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen
